Scandinavian Studies Submissions
Submissions to Scandinavian Studies are welcome on any topic related to the language, culture, or society of the Nordic region, past or present. Please note that only those papers based on material examined in the original language will be considered. Quotations of texts or sources should be given in the original language, with English translations subjoined to quotations from the Nordic languages.
Previously published articles, translations of articles that have appeared or will appear elsewhere, and pieces currently under consideration at another journal are not accepted. Reviews are solicited by the Review Editor, and unsolicited reviews will be returned. The review editor welcomes expressions of interest from potential reviewers regarding subject areas or expertise.
Your manuscript will be appraised initially by the Editor for appropriateness and quality, and if the Editor judges the work to be potentially publishable, it will be sent out blind to two outside reviewers. Anonymous outside reviews will be shared with you.
The Editor may request you to make changes to your manuscript to improve its quality or fit with the journal. The final decision of whether your work will appear in the pages of the journal rests with the Editor.
If your piece is selected for publication, the journal's editorial team will work with you to prepare the manuscript for publication. Prompt attention to editorial team queries will ensure a speedier process for the publication of your work.
Call for Special Issue Proposals
Scandinavian Studies welcomes proposals for special issues on topics of contemporary scholarly interest within any subfield of Scandinavian Studies. If you would like to be considered as a guest editor of a special issue, please provide the following details in your proposal: a general overview of your issue, including a title and description (around 500 words); the title and abstract for each planned article, or a call for article submissions if no articles are committed yet; and a short biography for each editor and known author. A special issue is typically no more than six articles, and each article should be between 8,000 and 12,000 words. Articles should follow the normal guidelines for submissions. Each article must go through the journal’s standard double-blind peer review process, to be coordinated by the guest editor(s). Proposals can be sent at any time, but they will be reviewed twice annually, on June 1 and December 1. Please send your proposals or questions to Dean Krouk at [email protected].

The word length should be between 8,000 and 12,000 words. Only those papers based on material examined in the original language will be considered.
